Olight red dots comparison: Olight, Olight X and Olight S

In this article I go through the three red dots from Olight. Those are Osight [in red and in green], Osight X and Osight S.

I will show the footprints,  check its features, compare how big and heavy each of them is, and show you how to operate all of them. Also I made a 5 minutes video - just in case you do not want to spend 2 minutes reading haha. You will find the video at the end of this article.

Lets get the most important part first - what is the footprint of each of these red dots. By the way, why it is the most important? Because you may have trouble finding compatible red dot adapter - such that is compatible with the footprint and with your gun.

So first thing first - lets get it straight if you will be even able to install the red dot to your gun.

• Osight uses the Trijicon RMR footprint standard
• Osight X uses also the Trijicon RMR footprint standard
• Osight S uses the Shield RMSc footprint standard

*The Shield RMSc footprint is the most common one, when it comes to subcompact pistols having direct fit slide cut. For example the Glock 43X & 48 MOS, CZ Shadow 2 Carry or CZ P-09 Nocturne models both use slide cut ready for Shield RMSc footprint. To those pistols you woul therefore not need even any adapter. Most of the other guns however use adapter plate, so make sure to get the one with required footprint* 

Reticle

Reticle, or another words - the aiming picture: dot, circle or combination of both.

The original Osight uses a simple 3 MOA dot, either green or red.

The Osight X uses a multi reticle system that allows you to choose between 3 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, and a combination of both. Only available in red color though.

The Osight S uses also multi reticle system that allows you to choose between 2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, and a combination of both. However, also only available in red.

Battery

When it comes to battery, Olight uses quite a unique solution that I did not see at any other manufacturers. They all use integrated battery, that is not to be exchanged. Instead, you can just recharge it with the charging cover. I like this elegant solution.

Capacity

The two alrger Osights [Osight and Osight X] will last cca 50.000 hours. The smaller Osight S will last probably 22.000 hours before recharge.

Osight and Osight X are almost identical in size, Osight S not.

Osight - 45 x 30 x 32.8 mm | 60 g / 2.12 oz

Osight X - 45 x 30 x 33 mm | 46 g / 1.62 oz

Osight S - 40.5 x 25 x 24.5 mm | 27.5 g / 0.97 oz

Controls

For this you do better to check the video below, but the basics:

Turn it on 

Press either + or - button

Turn it off

Press both buttons for about half a second

Switch brightness modes [manual vs auto]

Press the + button for more than 3 seconds

Change to reticle [Osight X or Osight S]

Press the - button for more than 3 seconds
